NXT Episode 5

21cd0eh.jpg

- Welcome everyone to NXT! We’re one week away from NXT TakeOver Armageddon and things are sure to heat up tonight! After the shocking debut of former New Japan Pro Wrestling superstar Shinsuke Nakamura last week, a huge tag team match was quickly made, with Hideo Itami and Nakamura teaming up to battle “The Olympic Gold Medalist” Kurt Angle and Jack Swagger!

- Speaking of which, here comes Kurt Angle alongside Swagger, who apparently has something to say. Kurt Angle starts by saying that Nakamura’s arrival only shows how badly they need Angle as NXT Intercontinental Champion. He goes on to say that Nakamura is nothing special so he’s not worried. He’s faced him before and knows exactly what he is, another weakling who’s trying to make a name for himself in the greatest country in the world but fear not because as long as Kurt Angle steps foot in a ring, he’s the top dog, a leader and a legend that will stop those unworthy. Angle says Hideo most likely called some backup from his own country since he can’t deal with world class athletes like him or Swagger but that’s fine because he’s not the only one with friends overseas.

- Suddenly, Shelton Benjamin’s theme song plays and out comes the former WWE superstar, who’s been working on Japan for some years. Kurt Angle says it’s time to take off the gloves and start hitting hard so he introduces the newly incarnation of Team Angle! The crowd have mixed reactions, some cheering the return of Shelton but the majority showing negative feelings towards the group. Angle tells everyone to shut up and says tonight there will be NO tag team match because he doesn’t want to and that’s final. He finishes by telling Hideo Itami to get his baggages ready because after he’s done with him at NXT TakeOver, he’ll return to Japan with his tail between his legs. Angle’s theme plays as they pose. Coming up next, the return of Rob Van Dam! He’ll face Adam Rose in a singles contest!

Match 1 – Rob Van Dam  VS  Adam Rose

-        The fan favourite RVD gets a big reaction in his return to NXT since his Extreme Rules match against The Ascension. RVD dominated the match easily, hitting most of his well-known unorthodox offense, leaving Rose with little time to recover. “The Party Animal” only had a chance when RVD missed a Discus Leg Drop, allowing Rose to hit a neckbreaker and take some of the control back. Rob Van Dam would have none of that and would quickly reverse a Party Foul attempt and follow with a fantastic combination of kicks and German Suplex.

-     The crowd started chanting for RVD, which lead to the “Whole Damn Show” to hit his famous Rolling Thunder and wrapping things up with the always great 5-Star Frog Splash. A great display by RVD!

                                                    Winner: Rob Van Dam

- The crowd goes on another “RVD” chant frenzy, with Vam Dam showing his appreciation and showing everyone that he returned to make shake things up again.

                                         Sami Zayn   Finn Bálor

- Backstage we see Sami Zayn in his locker room, getting ready for his Main Event match later on. Meanwhile, NXT Champion Finn Balor appears, saying that he’s glad Zayn won last week and that he can’t wait to make magic in the ring. Zayn appreciates the words and says Balor has been a top champion and he knows very well how hard it will be to take that belt from him but he wants to make history by being the first ever 2-time NXT Champion and he won’t ever give up on reaching that goal. Balor says he understands and he feels the same way but tells Zayn he got something wrong there. It won’t be hard to take the championship from him, it will be impossible. Tension rises up a bit with both men staring at each other but Balor quickly changes the subject and says tonight they need to be on the same page for their tag team match against Tyler Breeze and Fandango. Finn pats Zayn on the back and tells him he got this in the bag before walking out, leaving Zayn with a preoccupied look on his face.

                                     William Regal   Corey Graves

- We return to the broadcast and we go directly into NXT General Manager William Regal’s office, where he’s dealing with some paperwork. Out of nowhere, Corey Graves slams the door and comes out enraged, demanding something to be done over the travesty that happened last week on the Triple Threat. Regal tries to calm him down but Graves keeps on ranting, saying he got Samoa Joe beat and that he stole him the opportunity to get the NXT Championship. He screams that it was a 3 count and that Joe is a cheater like everybody else, including Regal himself. He says Baron Corbin is right, the referees are all favouring the same people just like Regal wants and that makes him sick! William Regal warns Corey about his words and that those are some serious accusations without any real evidences. Corey again cuts off Regal and says he wants a match with Samoa Joe at TakeOver so he can prove the world how he was screwed and how corrupt NXT really is with William Regal on the helm! He storms off with Regal not looking pleased. Coming up, One-half of the NXT Tag Team Champions Viktor will face Aiden English! Stay tuned!

Match 2 – Viktor  VS  Aiden English

-        The Ascension has been virtually unbeatable until the newcomers Vaudevillains broke the trend last week when they defeated the NXT Tag Team Champions in a non-title match. With Konnor on Viktor’s corner and Simon Gotch on Aiden English’s corner, both men had a great match, with several reversals and great technical ability. Viktor showed all of his aggression and worked on English’s back the whole match, hitting several backbreakers and applying multiple submissions holds. The Vaudevillains have made a big impact ever since they debuted on NXT but The Ascension is definitely trying to show that they are still the elite of tag team. Viktor’s control of the match made the NXT Tag Team Champion lose some focus, failing a moonsault from the top rope, allowing English to almost get the pinfall. From this moment on, Aiden English did an amazing comeback, hitting flying forearms and a missile dropkick followed by a leg drop. The crowd began pushing for The Vaudevillains, with Aiden English going for the Director’s Cut but Konnor went on the apron and distracted the referee. This would trigger a furious reaction by Simon Gotch, who did an amazing clothesline to Konnor on the apron.

-     At the same time, Viktor took the opportunity and dropkick Aiden against Gotch, leading to Viktor hitting a Double Underhook Piledriver for the win.

                                                           Winner: Viktor

- The Ascension quickly leaves the ring and celebrates on the ramp, with Gotch and English looking at each other, knowing that the champions got the best of them this time. Suddenly, The Lucha Dragons theme song plays, bringing out Kalisto and Sin Cara to the stage. The audience goes on a “Lucha” chant and show their love for the Mexican warriors. Kalisto takes the microphone and tells everyone that The Lucha Dragons are here on NXT and they have only one single thing in mind; winning the NXT Tag Team Championships! Sin Cara then says that after a short and sweet talk with William Regal, they can now officially say that at NXT TakeOver Armageddon, it’s going to be The Ascension defending their titles against The Vaudevillains and….. The Lucha Dragons! The crowd gives a big pop and another “Lucha” chant starts, with The Ascension looking shocked at the announcement.

                                                      Apollo Crews

- Backstage we see Jo-Jo ready to interview Apollo Crews. She asks Apollo how did it feel to debut on NXT last week and his thoughts on tonight’s match against a ring veteran like Christian. Apollo says he felt amazing and it was an incredible experience, which he thanks the fans several times. He goes on to say that he came to NXT to be the very best, fight against the best and be a champion but for that, he needs to prove it and that’s exactly what he’ll do against Christian. Apollo says he has huge respect for Christian and his career but this is NXT and it’s time for the new blood to gain their place at the table. He expects a very hard battle but is confident he will come out on top.

                                                       William Regal

- We return once more backstage where we see a troubled William Regal rushing to the parking lot, where he sees his car completely destroyed. Regal can’t believe it and is pissed. After a closer look, he can see written with paint a message on one of the windows; “Give me what I want”. Regal is furious but out of a sudden, Baron Corbin appears and looks down on Regal. The NXT General Manager begins yelling at Corbin and tells him if he discovers this was his doing, he’s going to get him suspended. Corbin simply says “try it” and gives the middle finger right into Regal’s face. What a sign of disrespect by Baron Corbin…. Next, “Captain Charisma” Christian faces the red-hot newcomer Apollo Crews!

Match 3 – Christian  VS  Apollo Crews

-        The crowd quickly goes on a double “let’s go Christian/let’s go Apollo” chant, showing how over both superstars are. Christian’s experience allows him to avoid most of Apollo’s explosive arsenal, keeping the athletic Crews on the mat. Christian kept the pace at his own liking, mostly doing chin locks and hitting some strong elbows. Finally, the strength of Apollo plays a major factor, with the “The One Man Nation” overpowering Christian and hitting some fantastic suplexes, including a delayed vertical suplex, which the crowd reacted in a major way.

-     This allowed Apollo to gain some momentum and started hitting Christian with everything he got but Christian’s veteran instincts put a stop to the rampage, hitting a great corner diving European Uppercut and locking in a variation of the Cloverleaf. With some effort, Apollo finally reached the ropes but Christian went on the attack again and tried an Inverted Falling DDT but in another amazing display of athleticism, Apollo reversed it and turned into a Triple Powerbomb, his well-known All Out Assault.

-     Crews, knowing the victory was near, went for his always impressive Standing Moonsault but Christian quickly moved and hit a Spear and then began setting up The Killswitch.

-     In yet another impressive feat of technical and power awareness, Apollo somehow reversed it into a Spin-Out Powerbomb, planting “Captain Charisma” on the mat. It was at that point that Baron Corbin made his presence felt, hitting Crews with a vicious Knock Out Punch, knocking him out and leading to the DQ.

                                             Winner by DQ: Apollo Crews

- Corbin then picks Apollo up and throws him to the outside before changing his focus to Christian. As the Canadian superstar gets to his feet, Corbin unleashes a brutal assault, hitting a Big Boot and a Spinning side slam leading to a chore of boos filling the arena. Corbin taunts the crowd as he gets set to hit the End of Days on Christian but gets blocked! Christian begins fighting back and both men go at each other with hard punches and several forearms to the face, with some referees trying to separate both men with no success. Christian managed to get Corbin in the Killswitch but “The Lone Wolf” barely escapes, sliding to the outside.

- At that very moment, William Regal’s theme plays and out comes the extremely upset NXT General Manager. Regal tells both men that it’s enough and if they keep that going, he’ll have to take extreme measures. Corbin grabs a microphone on the outside and tells Regal he doesn’t care anymore, as long as he gives him Christian. Corbin goes as far as to say he’ll put his NXT career on the line for that to happen and provokes Christian in doing the same, mentioning how that’s the only way this will ever end. Christian looks at Corbin and agrees on it, with Regal making the bout official for NXT TakeOver Armageddon. But according to Regal, that’s not all. Since there’s been a lot of controversy over referees and their decisions, he found the perfect solution for their upcoming career battle…. He then welcomes the Special Guest referee…..

- James Storm comes out to a huge pop from the crowd. “The Cowboy“ shows his presence on NXT and will be the official referee for Christian and Corbin’s match! The NXT brand doesn’t disappoint and the surprises keep on coming!

- We return to ringside where Rich Brennan informs us that another match has been made official by NXT General Manager William Regal! “The Saviour of Misbehaviour” Corey Graves will have the opportunity to turn his words into actions when he faces “The Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe at NXT TakeOver Armageddon! It has been a very busy right for Mr. Regal and it seems he’s making sure everything is dealt with. In other news, it’s been rumoured that another influx of superstars will hit NXT soon, which means more incredible match ups and exciting action! One of those talents is the extremely talented team of Enzo Amore and Big Cass, who will make their debut after NXT TakeOver! Coming up next, “The Destroyer” Samoa Joe is in action!

Match 4 – Solomon Crowe  VS  Samoa Joe

-        To the surprise of the audience, Solomon Crowe comes out, hinting at a possible return to NXT after requesting his release a couple months ago. Meanwhile, Corey Graves is seen joining the announcers table, pushing Byron Saxton to the side and taking his headset. The match was actually very even, with Joe trying to out-wrestle his opponent but Crowe displayed great improvement ever since leaving the brand. Crowe somehow managed to get the upper hand and controlled the match at some point, something that pretty much no one expected. After several backbreakers and chops to the chest, Joe restored some natural order when he brutally hit his signature Side Slam from the corner. From that moment, Joe stared Graves at the announcers table and begins showing a much more aggressive style, hitting extremely stiff kicks to Crowe’s head and planting him on the mat with a powerslam. After Joe’s Running Senton failed, Solomon Crowe went for some strong moves, hitting the Bycicle Kick and some forearm smashes severals times, leaving Joe groggy and ready to take a great springboard lariat.

-     Unfortunately for Crowe, Joe amazingly catches him mid-air and hit a powerbomb and turned it into a STF. Solomon showed once more great resiliency and got the ropes but Joe was on battle mode and tried a German Suplex that got incredibly reversed by Crowe into a Headlock Driver but Joe isn’t called “The Samoan Submission Machine” for nothing and quickly turns the Headlock Driver into the Coquina Clutch, which meant game over for Crowe.

                                          Winner by Submission: Samoa Joe

- As soon as the match ends, Graves gets up from the announcers table and stares at Joe, picking a microphone and telling Joe that next Wednesday he will show the whole world what a phony he really is and how deeply corrupted this brand is. He goes on to say that perhaps this was a blessing in disguise because now he knows exactly what needs to be done; he needs to be a saviour of misbehaviour again and clean this house of all the trash and diseases that polute the brand, from William Regal, to the referees that support him but for now he’ll start with Samoa Joe, the phony machine. Corey Graves theme plays as Joe stares from the ring.

- Back at the announcers table, Brennan has more information! The ultimate match between Hideo Itami and Kurt Angle for the vacant NXT Intercontinental Championship will be contested inside a Steel Cage! But that’s not all! Everyone is banned from ringside and there needs to be a conclusive finish for this match so we’ll be guaranteed to finally have a NXT Intercontinental Champion! You think this is all? Hold on to your seats because we’re also been informed that Shinsuke Nakamura will make his in-ring debut at TakeOver against another newcomer, Shelton Benjamin! Both men will have the chance to display all of their international experience on TakeOver in another can’t miss match up!

                                     Tyler Breeze   Fandango

- Backstage, we see Tyler Breeze and Fandango speaking with each other. Breeze goes on to say that despite everything that happened with The Rose Express, he doesn’t blame Fandango one bit. He says the real culprit of all the bad luck they got was from Rose himself, who keeps making the same mistakes over and over again. Fandango says ever since they split up, nothing good happened to any of them but perhaps this is a sign that both of them are meant to dominate NXT’s Tag Team Division. He says all these new people coming in are sure to make an impact and make them an afterthought so they need to do something about it. Breeze agrees and says that it’s time to make a statement to everyone who thinks they’re done and what better way to do that than to defeat the Nº1 Contender and the NXT Champion tonight!

- A video package hyping Enzo Amore & Big Cass’s arrival at NXT plays! Coming up, our Main Event! Tyler Breeze & Fandango will face the exciting team of Sami Zayn and the NXT Champion Finn Balor!

                                                                     Main Event

                                      Tyler BreezeFandango
                                                                            VS
                                      Sami ZaynFinn Bálor

-         Breeze and Fandango showed great chemistry during the match, hitting multiple double team moves and constantly exchanging tags, targeting Zayn from the get go. Fandango apparently left some of his dancing mannerisms and began showing signs of being more aggressive, hitting strong leg slams on Zayn, keeping the explosive Canadian superstar grounded. After another tag on Breeze, Sami finally managed to get some time to breathe, when he caught “Prince Pretty” with a great Tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, followed by a Snap Suplex. Finn Balor wanted to get in and Sami Zayn tagged the champion, who quickly exploded all over the ring with his well-known exciting offense. Hitting multiple running clotheslines and a scoop slam, Balor went for an Over the top rope somersault senton but missed and got nailed with a heel kick by Breeze.

-     With another tag made, Fandango worked on Balor’s legs for a good while, perhaps with the end game of taking away Balor’s finisher, The Coup de Grace. Fandango and Breeze again worked well together and went for a double team but this time it was the NXT Champion who got the last laugh, as he reversed into a double DDT. In the usual last second effort, both teams managed to do the hot tag and Sami Zayn easily took Breeze out, hitting an impressive Exploder Suplex against the turnbuckle. The crowd is fired up at this point and Sami Zayn feeds off that same energy, going for the Blue Thunder Bomb but the always resourceful Breeze gets away and tries a pin combination that almost gets Zayn by surprise.

-     In the conclusive moments, Tyler Breeze attempted his Beauty Shot finisher but for the second time in the match, he got caught with an Exploder Suplex against the corner with Zayn also hitting an extremely well done top rope enzuigiri on Fandango on the apron.

-     The NXT crowd clearly knew what was coming next and they weren’t disappointed when Sami Zayn hit his Helluva Kick on Breeze. In an interesting turn on events, Balor apparently tagged himself in without Zayn’s request and picks up Breeze, hits the Sling Blade and planted him with the Bloody Sunday, securing the victory for his team with some mixed reactions from the crowd.

Winners: Sami Zayn and NXT Champion Finn Balor

- Balor celebrates while Sami Zayn doesn’t look very happy with that blind tag. He tries to get some explanations out of Balor, with the NXT Champion looking annoyed but apparently apologizes to Sami and offers a handshake as way to end the issue. The crowd chant for both men as Sami Zayn looks unsure before accepting the gesture.

- Suddenly, Balor turns his back on Zayn, leaving the Canadian empty handed in the middle of the ring, while posing with the NXT Championship on the ramp with a confused Sami Zayn looking on. Friendship is one thing but the NXT Championship is clearly another! What will happen when these two fan favourites lock horns at NXT TakeOver? Don’t miss it! Thanks for watching and see you next week!

PS: I've given up on booking Divas. Never liked using them and I have too much to work on already so they are officially out.
